Climate Products

The offline sounding data are processed into climate data that describe the mean state of the atmosphere on a monthly, seasonal, and annual basis. For climate products based on RO data from a single instrument (e.g. GRAS on Metop) the horizontal resolution will be constrained. However, when using data from more satellites the situation improves and all available RO data (Metop, CHAMP, COSMIC, ...) are analyzed in order to achieve high quality climate products.

The climate data are provided in the form of global, hemispheric, and zonal means, and as low-resolution gridded data. The data are available in numerical and graphical formats, for use in climate research and monitoring, as well as by those requesting quick-look, easily interpreted data.

The atmospheric parameters available as climate products are:
  • - Refractivity, temperature, geopotential height, humidity
  • - Global, hemispheric, zonal and low-resolution gridded (regional) data
  • - Monthly, seasonal, and annual mean data
