Product description

The GRAS SAF Climate Products describe the mean state of the atmosphere on a monthly, seasonal, and annual basis. All available RO data (currently Metop and COSMIC) are analyzed in order to achieve high quality climate products.

Algorithm description

Each NRT and Offline product profile is the result of one radio occultation. Signals from the occulting GPS satellite are measured by the GRAS receiver, downlinked, and processed by the GRAS SAF into refractivity profiles. More details on this can be found on the Radio Occultation Theory page. The offline sounding data will be processed further into climate products in the form of global, hemispheric, and zonal means, and as low-resolution gridded data.

Data characteristics

The products will be available in numerical (NetCDF and ASCII) and graphical (PNG and JPG) formats, for use in climate research and monitoring, as well as by those requesting quick-look, easily interpreted data. GRM-18 will be stored in the GRAS SAF Product Archive.

Product validation and monitoring

Accuracy of the product will be described in a validation report in 2012. Monitoring of the product will be available on the Monitoring Pages.

Product documentation

The GRAS SAF Climate Products will be described in a Climate Product User Manual in 2012.
